>>USC Product Leinart Officially Introduced On Tuesday
(Houston, TX) -- The Houston Texans have officially signed quarterback Matt Leinart. Arizona released Leinart on Friday after settling on newcomer Derek Anderson as its starting quarterback. The 27-year-old Leinart had spent his entire career with the Cardinals after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and was expected to take over the starting role following the retirement of Kurt Warner. He started one game for an injured Warner, completing 21-of-31 passes for 220 yards in a Week 12 loss to Tennessee. He's expected to serve in a backup role once again, this time behind Houston starter Matt Schaub and most likely behind second-stringer Dan Orlovsky.
Leinart has thrown for 3,983 yards with 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in four NFL seasons. He connected on 22-of-28 throws for 175 yards with one score and no picks for Arizona this preseason.
